Grieving daughter’s lasting legacy 20 years after dad killed

Two decades following the untimely passing of Mark Burns, his daughter Amy has transformed her sorrow into a tribute that continues his legacy.

In 2004, Mark suffered fatal injuries after an altercation outside a Stockton pub. Amy, only thirteen at the time, recalls the compassionate care her father received at the intensive care unit of James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Now, at 33, Amy has channeled her efforts into philanthropy, raising £7,726.76 for the ICU (James Cook Hospital) through various fundraising activities from May to July.

During a heartfelt ceremony, she presented the funds to the hospital staff, expressing her belief that her father would have been proud of the communal spirit the events fostered.

Despite the bittersweet nature of the gatherings, Amy finds solace in the support of her father’s friends and family.

She extends her gratitude to all contributors, acknowledging that the success of the fundraising is a collective achievement.

The man responsible for Mark’s death, Steven White, was initially sentenced to five years in prison, later reduced by one year.

In memory of Mark, his friends organize an annual charity football match, with proceeds benefiting the ICU that cared for him.

Contributions in Amy’s name are still being accepted at the hospital, honoring her father’s memory and supporting the unit that once supported him.
