Officers release image of man to trace as part of sexual assault report in South Tyneside

Officers investigating a report of sexual assault in South Tyneside have released an image of a man they would like to trace.

At around 6.15pm on Tuesday, May 21, it was reported that two men had approached a woman in the Sunderland Road area of South Shields.

After both asking for directions, one of the men has left the area. The second man has then put his arm around the victim’s shoulder and touched her chest, before kissing her on the cheek.

The offender has then left the scene on foot, leaving the woman – in her 20s – shaken by the incident which was later reported to police.

A number of enquiries have been ongoing ever since the report was first made, including an extensive trawl of CCTV footage in the area.

Today (Monday) officers have released a photo of a man they would like to trace in connection with the report.

He was believed to have been in the area at the time the incident took place, and may have information which can assist the investigation.

The man, anyone who knows him, or anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police by using live chat or report forms on the Force’s website, or by sending a direct message on social media.

Those unable to make contact in these ways can call 101. Please quote crime reference: 059021H/24
