Grieving mother of Jack Woodley succeeds in her fight to get the Knife Angel to his home town
The Knife Angel will be transported to Newton Aycliffe in County Durham in June next year
The grieving mother of an 18-year-old boy murdered by a gang of 10 teenagers has succeeded in her fight to get the Knife Angel sculpture to his home town.
Jack Woodley, from Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, was stabbed twice by a group of males, aged between 15 and 18, while at Houghton Feast in Houghton-le-Spring on October 16, 2021. He was rushed to hospital where he tragically died the next day.
All 10 teenagers were convicted of murdering Jack following a trial at Newcastle Crown Court in June 2022. Two months later, they were handed life sentences with minimum terms of between eight and 17 years’ detention.
Jack’s mum Zoey McGill, who lives in Newton Aycliffe, has been working alongside Andy Boyd, Neighbourhood Police Sergeant for Newton Aycliffe, to get the Knife Angel to Jack’s hometown.
The sculpture, which is made from over 100,000 seized blades, was created to highlight the impact of negative behaviour, including knife crime. It is moved to different areas of the country and has previously visited Sunderland, Gateshead and Redcar.
