Beloved grandfather dies in A68 collision

A much-loved grandfather-of-eight has tragically died following a collision last week.

The incident happened at around 12.40pm on Friday (August 30) on the A68 at High Stoop, outside the Brown Horse Pub and involved a car and a motorbike.

The biker – a 66-year-old man from Workington, in Cumbria – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Today, he has been named by police as beloved father and grandfather, Anthony Jackson.

He leaves behind his wife, Lesley, children Philip, Sharon, Jamie, Matthew, and Sam, and grandchildren Phillipa, Philip, Cayden, Beau, Alex, Patrick, Albie, and Rosie.

Investigators would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident, or anyone who has any dashcam footage from the area prior to the collision.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Durham Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit via sciu@durham.police.uk or on 101, quoting incident number 165 of August 30.
