Overnight closure for A66 repair completion

A stretch of the A66 through Middlesbrough will be closed tonight (Tuesday, September 3) as the latest phase of a repair programme nears completion.

The key route will be closed between the Hartington and Marton Road interchanges from 8pm.

The closure – of both eastbound and westbound carriageways – is expected to last for a maximum of two hours.

The move will allow for the removal of a jack below the road as part of repair works to columns at Exchange Square.

The removal paves the way for work to begin on the installation of the STACK leisure development at the site.

Fully signposted diversions will be in place throughout.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “A brief closure is unavoidable to ensure the jack removal can  be carried out quickly and safely, and this has been scheduled to avoid busy periods.

“As ever we are grateful to the travelling public for their patience and understanding, and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
